I have to admit that men having six pack abs, easily, catch my eyes. What I am talking about are those I see in fitness magazines. Although I often go to the gym, I seldom see men with rock hard abs.
Since men have more muscle mass, it is easier for them to achieve the so called six pack abs. However, for a woman like me, it will take more effort to even get close to that. I have a well toned abdomen and this is only the second step to getting the most wanted abs.

Waiting For My Real Life To Begin

This is me now.
Me with my family...my inspiration.
Nine months ago, I was a broken woman. At the age of 34, I was 277 pounds. My knees hurt so bad I had a hard time going up and down stairs and I had this neck pain that I was certain would eventually kill me. My body was slowly turning against me and rightly so. I was killing myself with food.
One day before Christmas, I was sitting at my school with some of my teacher friends. A fellow teacher, younger than me, had recently been diagnosed with MS and we were watching the struggles that her body was giving her. She told me that her doctor informed her that her addiction to diet soda was increasing the magnitude of her symptoms and if she would stop drinking it, she would see a serious reduction in those symptoms. She responded, "They will take a diet coke from my cold, dead hands." I was in shock.
That day, I came home and told my husband that it was time for me to get serious. "Never in my life do I want something to be so important to me that I would rather DIE than give it up."
On January 4, 2010, I stood on the scales in horror. 277 pounds. How had I let this happen? What had I become?? I wept. I forced myself to stand in front of the mirror and really look at my body for the first time in years. I always figured if I never really looked at myself I never had to know how bad it was. As I stared at the weight, I began to realize it was much more than pounds that I carried around. Each one of those pounds represented one bad day, one stressful night, one worry, one heartbreak, and one mistake. For years, I'd been carrying around this weight as a sort of badge of honor for all the miserable things that had happened in my life.
I wiped the tears from my eyes and realized, I'd just been waiting. All these years, I'd tried and failed diet after diet after diet. I'd been waiting for my real life to begin. Waiting for some magic pill or fairy godmother to come in and wave her magic wand. Waiting for the day when I could just wake up and be the healthy me I knew was buried somewhere deep inside. Waiting.
I sat down that day and wrote out 2 goals. I knew if I went by my past experiences I would jump in all gung ho and last about 2 weeks before I fizzled out. This time, I started simple. 2 goals. 1. No eating after 7pm. 2. No diet soda. Both of these were very hard for me. I was as addicted to diet soda as my teacher friend and it seemed that the only eating I did occurred after 7pm. In fact, the first week, I found myself leaving my daughter's basketball game, well after 7pm, on an empty stomach.
On the way to the pizza place, my internal dialogue was at battle. "You can eat after 7 just this once." "No you can't!" "But you're hungry!"
In the end, I watched my family enjoy pizza while I enjoyed an iced tea. I really believe that turned the tide for me. That moment solidified this entire weight loss journey. I had finally won the battle with my will power. I had finally stopped waiting for that magic cure and took my weight loss into my own hands.
For the first month, I didn't exercise. I watched what I ate and followed my goals, never messing up on them. By the end of the month, I'd lost 26.5 pounds. I was rolling! The next month, I added on exercise. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I would walk 1 mile. Tuesday and Thursday, I did some light strength training with some little weights I had at home. Each month that passed, I added on a bit to my exercise regime. Not a lot, but enough to feel that I was increasing and adding all of the time.
Now, nine months later, I'm happy to report that I'm walking 10 miles! 10 miles! Who'd have thought I could do something like that??? To accommodate my family's busy lifestyle, I wake up at 4am and meet my mother for that early morning walk. Yes, it's dark. Yes, I'm tired. But, when I round the corner to the finish line each morning, I feel so, so good. Plus, it's a wonderful bonding time for my mom and I. We get to catch up with each other and motivate each other along the way.
I've also increased my strength training quite a bit. This month, I've started pilates and my inner thighs already feel so much leaner! I'm switching this week to a newer, more challenging program and I'm excited to see the results. Me...excited about exercise??? Wow! The other day, my mom and I were walking and she touched my arm and said, "My goodness, your arms are like rocks!" What a great feeling!
Today, I sit here, still wearing my exercise clothes, fresh off of my pilates workout, weighing 104 pounds less. 104 pounds!!!! My oldest child weighs 96 pounds. When I think about carrying him around on my back all day every day, I realize it's no wonder my body was shutting down on me. I was killing myself just being alive!
104 pounds, 28 more to go, and I'm more determined than ever to reach my goal. Next weekend, I'm going to a wedding of a good high school friend and I can't wait to see everyone. Most people are shocked when they see me. Most don't even recognize me at first glance and I have to admit, it feels really good. I'm planning on buying a new dress and maybe getting a hair cut (haven't decided yet, though). I've got big plans for my goal reward, too, but I'm not going to talk about them until it actually happens. And it will.
You see, in this last 9 months, I've learned that I don't have to sit around waiting for my real life to begin, because it already has. This is my real life. Working hard, setting goals and achieving them. I have the power. Not my fairy godmother. Me. No more waiting around. I'm tired of waiting. Now, I'm living. My real life has begun!!!

Getting The Motivation For Workout

There are a lot of people who have the desire to lose weight but they lack the motivation for workout. These individuals can come up with a lot of excuses such as lack of time and budget, among others. Reasons such as these are just plain alibis that can, easily, be overcome.
The moment I decided to avail of a gym membership is the same time I acquired my motivation for workout. I used to be overweight and I, successfully, shed off my excess pounds in a weight loss program. So, aside from eating well balanced meals, I wanted to maintain my ideal weight by being consistent in exercise. In addition to this, I would like to live a healthy lifestyle to prevent illness.
I come from a family with a history of cancer on my mother’s side. My mom, uncles, cousin, and grandparents died of cancer. On my father’s side, almost all my relatives died of a heart attack. In this regard, I choose to be healthy so that I can enjoy a longer life and more quality time with my family.
My other motivation for workout is the enjoyment I get from the group exercise classes I attend. I, always, look forward to go to the gym, at least 4 times a week. Both the music and the latest steps let me have the benefit of working up a sweat.
There are some people who are excited the first time they step into a gym. At first, they go everyday. It is just like going through the first days of school as a student. With brand new rubber shoes and matching gym wear, they find it a thrill to workout.
Somehow, as a month or two passes by, others lose their drive and suddenly stop going to the gym. Probably they grew tired and felt exhausted of doing too much in just a short time. Another reason, perhaps, is because of boredom of doing the same thing almost everyday.
It would be advisable to alternate exercises like running on one day, playing badminton on another day and lifting weights in the gym, in between. For exercises to be effective, they should be varied so the muscles will not get used to the same activities.
Those who lack motivation for workout can find someone who can join them in exercise. It may be a friend or relative they are close to. Others stay as members of a gym because they enjoy the company of new friends and this is enough motivation for them.
You will never run out of incentives to workout. It may be a celebration you look forward to attend or the figure hugging clothes you would love to wear. On a higher level, it may be a marathon or a weight lifting competition you would want to prepare for. Whatever is the reason, you can think of something inspiring to keep you excited to workout. Anyway, it is you who will benefit in the whole run.

When you are on your way to reaching your ideal weight, it is always the hardest part to lose the last remaining pounds. It is challenging, though, somewhat frustrating at times to reach your goal. However, if you are really determined on achieving it, nothing and no one can stop you but yourself.
When I went through a weight loss program, I was given a schedule of meals to take, including exercise routines. There were also massages and treatments that they say could further help in reducing weight in inches.
At first, it took some time to shed off pounds but as the weeks passed, I noticed my progress. However, as I was nearing the end of my program, I found it difficult to reduce the last 2 to 5 pounds to reach my desired weight. It seemed like a struggle and I felt frustrated every time I stepped on the weighing scale.
Once you reach your ideal weight, the next thing to do is to maintain it by keeping the excess pounds off. Here are the simple but tried and true ways to follow:
1. Eat a heavy breakfast.
Since breakfast is the first meal of the day, it has to be filling. This jump starts your metabolism and you need all the energy to help you with all your activities during the day. Skipping breakfast makes you sluggish and tired, easily.
2. Eat multiple meals a day.
Instead of having 3 big meals a day, you can divide these into 5 smaller meals that are about 3 hours apart. This way, you do not, easily, become hungry so you do not have the tendency to overeat. At the same time, you are energized. This technique has been proven to shed off excess fats.
3. Get enough sleep.

Among all basic food groups, protein is the one that boosts your fat loss potential, the most. I remember it as part of my program to take a high protein diet. This increases metabolism and burns a lot of calories.
